Compressed air filters, cartridges, and housings
Compressed air for industrial processes is produced by air compressors and then fed through a compressed air network to the given tool or equipment. Compressors use air from the environment, which is often far from ideal as to purity. Ambient air may be contaminated with water, oil and solvent mists, dust, or even various gases. The particles of oil, scale, rubber and metal from the compressors and the pipe network also need to be considered. It is therefore essential that contaminants be removed from compressed air in order to protect the quality of painted surfaces and technical equipment, not to mention employees’ health.
The quality of compressed air and the purity grade for filtration are regulated by the DIN-ISO 8573-1 standard, where the air is listed in 6 categories based on quality as well as oil, dust and water content. For example, whilst class 5 permits oil content of up to 25 mg/m³, the maximum amount in class 1 is 0.01 mg/m³.
After passing through the compressor, the air must be treated/filtered in order to attain the air quality grade appropriate for use in the network. Filters used in compressed air networks are classified according to their grade: pre-filters, oil filters, microfilters, sub-microfilters, sterile filters and active carbon filters.
The main parameters when selecting a compressed air filter are capacity (m³/h), maximum operating pressure (bar) and type of connection, as these fundamentally define their applicability.
Properties of compressed air filter products:
Nominal capacity: 60 - 10,000 m³/h
Maximum operating pressure: 12 - 50 bar
Connection size: 1/2", 3/8", 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 3", DN 100, DN 125, DN 150, DN 200
Filter classes: 0.01 - 3 µm
